Weemala

Weemala, a new build on a steep Northbridge site, features a design that segments its form into four parts, managing height and addressing functional needs. The landscaped area includes substantial greenery framed by stone-walled terraces, enhancing aesthetics and creating a sense of enclosure around the entryway. The building's base, clad in a batten screen, houses essential amenities—internal entry, gym, study, cellar, and garage access—facilitating a transition from outdoor to indoor spaces while providing privacy and protection.

The open off-form concrete living level protrudes out from the base, opening out to a generous deck with water views to the south and an elevated horizontal courtyard to the north. This openness is in deliberate contrast to the more enclosed base, and sleeping quarters above and below.

The sinuous upper level sits neatly on top, jutting past the lower living section in front, and narrowing towards the back as it overhangs beside the existing pool, to provide external openness, maximising the exposure to northern light and offering shelter for an undercover dining area.

As the courtyard breaks away against the house we come full circle, following the passage of light down into the circulation areas of the base.
