Look Through House
The remodelling project in Northbridge focused on enhancing the relationship between the internal spaces of the house and its surrounding environment. By reconfiguring the layout, the living and sleeping areas now offer improved connectivity to the site's water views and the protected level area adjacent to the swimming pool. Careful consideration was given to the positioning of windows and open spaces, allowing natural light to flood the interiors and creating a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor living. The updated design aims to celebrate the site's natural attributes while retaining the solid foundation of the existing structure.
"The success of the project is really because they took the time to understand what was important to us for a house to be a “home”. We trusted them and gave them license to design around those requirements. Having Pip involved from the beginning to design the interiors alongside the architectural pieces that Mark led meant that the home and furnishings work together. Thank you Castlepeake."

The existing red bricks are unusual in shape and texture so have been retained and painted as a simple way of providing texture and detail to visually breakdown the large mass of the building.
Additional simple materials including fibre cement sheet and plywood have also been introduced to contrast with the masonry structure.
The tiled roof was removed and replaced by a floating skillion adjacent a lower concrete roof defining the living and kitchen areas respectively.
Sun control devices were included at the north western facade attached to the existing projecting concrete floor slabs.
These not only provide much needed sunshade but also create fine detail to reduce the large scale of the facade.
