Intersect House
The design makes most of the site's irregular shape and wide front boundary, creating a cohesive form divided by a northern courtyard. This courtyard facilitates natural light and ventilation while connecting the rear of the property. A linear off-form concrete element links the distinct parts of the house and features a garden roof at the northern end, enhancing the connection to nature. It wraps around the ground floor, encapsulating the timber-clad two-storey section. This design promotes unity while respecting individuality, resulting in a functional and visually appealing living space.
The L-shaped form provides openings to a north facing rear garden and pool area from multiple living spaces at the ground level, which is protected by a series of mature native trees filtering the harsh western sunlight.
The upper level envelope sits within a garden roof, and focuses itself largely to the private north-western aspect. The Master Bedroom and Study anchor each end of the upper level through protected curved glass windows looking through the canopies of the mature trees beyond.
The house has been designed for a fast track
approval under Complying Development legislation.
