Angophora House

The design concept focuses on harmony between the built environment and nature. Integrating mature angophoras and rock outcrops forms the architectural strategy. By dividing the house into segments, the project reduces disruption to flora and geology, allowing nature to shape the home's layout. These volumes generate a connection between interior spaces and the landscape, with each area oriented for optimal views of the Lane Cove River while respecting existing trees and rocks. This approach ensures sustainable interaction with the environment, keeping the natural setting integral to the home's character and functionality.

Light, views and ventilation are also enhanced by this arrangement. A suspended passage begins at the entry on the upper rock outcrop and runs through the house with outlook to trees, courtyards and landscape along the way.

Likewise the main living spaces relate to the exterior by opening out to the view to the south and to a partially covered court to the north west.

A curvaceous roof covers the main sections allowing in northern light while visually rolling down the steep incline of the site.

The lower floor is kids' zone with a cantilevered swimming pool adjacent to a rumpus room. A firepit area is proposed below the pool and again relates to landscape; this time rock outcrops at the bottom of the site.
